BT Vision Review – Will It Beat The Best?

Competing with the likes of Sky+HD, Virgin’s TiVo live and on demand TV is hard. But the question is, can BT Vision provide a service equally as good when it comes to home entertainment?

Let’s break it down and start with the basics. BT Vision is an on demand service that uses digital TV. It offers Freeview stations but also paid services such as Sky Sports 1, Sky Sports 2 and ESPN. BT Vision is a host of other on demand services and options for TV channels.

With BT Vision you can record one channel whilst watching another and with the bundled Vision+ Box you will have the luxury of recording up to 80 hours of programmes and films with the 160GB hard drive. Although it is not impressive as Virgin’s TiVo, the rival service comes with a complete EPG. This stands for Electronic Programming Guide, so basically the guide that gives you details of the shows and channels. The guide shows up to 14 days in the future, so you know what to watch and when.

So what can we find out from a BT vision review? Before switching to BT Vision there’s a few things you may want to know. The choice of live TV and HD channels is slightly limited in comparison to Sky+HD. BT may offer a great on-demand service but there aren’t many options for live TV, unless you are interested in Sky Sports 1 or Sky Sports 2.

The second thing to remember is recording. Although this function is available, you are only able to watch one channel whilst recording another, whereas Sky+ will allow you to record two programmes concurrently and TiVo will even let you record three channels at the same time! In conclusion, it all depends on preferences. BT Vision is easy to use but is simply not as inclusive as competitors at the moment. Watch out for the next upgrade for new features though!
